San José, Costa Rica. Mario Garita MP Dental Clinic News. Although there have been local cases of Zika virus in Costa Rica. Mainly in the coastal areas, such as Puntarenas and Limon. Fortunately, it has been a much lower number compared to other Latin America Countries. The few cases that have occurred in San Jose have been in vulnerable urban areas with poor sanitation and high population density.

fachada-con-carrosOur office is located in one of the most exclusive areas of the city and there were no known cases of the disease near this zone, so our patients should feel reassured when visiting our clinic and it’s beautiful surroundings.

If you still have any doubts, you should know that the institutions located at points of entry such as airports, ports and land borders are having strict surveillance of travelers 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to detect travelers with symptoms of Zika.

In adition, Costa Rica’s Health Ministry, in coordination with the National Emergency Commission, local governments, local health centers and private companies have implemented preventive measures all over the country, such as house to house visitation, elimination of breeding sites, fumigation, proper waste management, etc. The mass media have joined this intense preventive campaign as well, making a big impact on the population who have responded positively by following the recommendations especially during the rainy season, which fortunately ends in a few days.

Remember that PAHO / WHO recommends travelers to take the necessary precautions to prevent mosquito bites. However, they have not established any restrictions on international traveling to Costa Rica so there is no reason for you to postpone your traveling plans towards that new smile you’ve always wanted.
