Nature created teeth to support the bone around it. When teeth are lost, the supporting bone degenerates. Nature takes away what you do not use! The bone under the gums “shrinks” and dentures get loose. Dental implants, when properly placed and maintained, provide excellent bone support and preservation.

A patient with natural healthy teeth can chew at 100 percent efficiency. Whenever a tooth is lost, the chewing efficiency decreases.

Whenever all teeth are lost, the chewing efficiency decreases to 15 to 18 percent (with good – fitting dentures on adequate bone ridges). With implants and non-removable bridge work, the chewing efficiency will increase as high as 95 percent.
