Turrialba Volcano November 2016

Turrialba, Cartago, Costa Rica. Mario Garita MP Dental Clinic News. One of the main natural attractions of our country are volcanoes. Costa Rica have five active volcanoes. Some of them have registered major eruptions in recent years. However in the last months, the Turrialba volcano has surprised us all with phreatic eruptions of ash and gases that reached up to four thousand meters high.

The eruptions of this volcano have caused ashfall in places like San Jose and Alajuela but the danger zone is reduced to 5 kilometers (3,10 miles) around the volcano so it poses no threat to the population of the Costa Rican Central Valley. A few times, persistent ashfall has prompted the closure of airports causing delays on flights for a few hours. However the Juan Santamaría International Airport (IATA code SJO) the country’s largest international terminal have been operating normally.

Instead of being an obstacle to your visit, this is an unforgettable and unique experience. You can even plan a one day trip to places near the volcano where eruptions can be appreciated at its best. You will not regret it!
